Former Pakistan player Tanvir Ahmed launched a scathing attack on the national selectors and Waqar Younis for the team selected for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Tanvir is miffed with the late exclusions of all-rounder Kamran Ghulam and spinner Abrar Ahmed.
While Ghulam has played one ODI for Pakistan, Abrar’s removal was surprising. He has played six Tests, taking 38 wickets at an average of 31.07.
“Have you all seen? Waqar Younis and the selection committee have removed Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam from the Test matches against Bangladesh. The remaining issue is that Waqar Younis will ruin Pakistan’s cricket,” he wrote on X.
“There should be shame on this third-class selection committee that has dropped Abrar and Kamran Ghulam from the team. Where is this Waqar Younis who keeps portraying himself as a big legend? How have these two been dropped?” he added.
The two players were part of the original squad before being asked to leave.
Pakistan has never lost to Bangladesh in Test cricket and will look to continue their winning run against the Asian rivals.
In their previous meeting in Bangladesh in 2021, Pakistan completed a 2-0 whitewash.
Pakistan and Bangladesh are sixth and eighth in the World Test Championship points table.
The games in the series will be played at Rawalpindi, with the first contest starting on August 21 and the second on August 30.
