Controversy took the centre stage during the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka when Virat Kohli survived a close LBW call during the Men in Blue’s 241-run chase. Kohli was given out by the on-field umpire but the batter managed to get it overturned. Akila Dananjaya and other Sri Lanka players were not convinced and expressed their frustration.

The incident happened in the 15th over when Dananjaya’s delivery turned sharply, beating Kohli as he tried to hit the ball into the leg side. Virat was given out but he opted for DRS. The UltraEdge showed a spike when the ball passed close to the bat.

Joe Wilson, the TV umpire, overturned the on-field decision. Kohli looked happy and satisfied.

The decision was not taken lightly by the hosts. Wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis threw his helmet on the ground, while Asalanka spoke to umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri.

Even Sri Lankan interim coach Sanath Jayasuriya had a word with the fourth umpire. The Sri Lankan players continued to show their anger as Virat was still at the crease.

However, Kohli couldn’t carry on and was dismissed four overs later. Jeffery Vandersay outfoxed the legendary cricketer.

Vandersay troubled the Indian batters and took six wickets. Sri Lanka defeated India by 33 runs to go 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series.
