• Sales have dropped 45.9% in Germany and are down 62% in the UK.
  • While Tesla struggles, some of its EV rivals saw their sales grow.
  • Declines have also been reported in Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Things just keep going from bad to worse for Tesla in Europe. Their sales have already slipped significantly over the past six months. April was a particularly horrible month for the EV maker, with major declines reported in key markets including Spain, Germany, Belgium, France, the UK, and others.

Tesla products have fallen out of favor, particularly in Germany. Last month, Tesla sold 885 vehicles across the country, representing a 45.9% decline from April 2024. Through the first four months of the year, Tesla has sold 5,820 vehicles in Germany, a 60.4% decline from 2024.

Obviously, poor public sentiment about Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk, is a major contributing factor to declining sales. Not only has he spent most of this year cozying up to Donald Trump and trying to make his power felt through the United States, but he also supported a far-right political party in Germany before its recent federal elections.

Tesla has also been shifting the European supply of the best-selling Model Y to the recently updated ‘Juniper’ model. However, as local deliveries of this new model have already started, sales should be stronger than they are proving to be.

As Tesla struggled in Germany, some of its competition thrived. BYD, still a relatively new player in the country, sold 1,566 vehicles last month, a 755.7% jump over April 2024. Year-to-date sales are also up 384.5% to 2,791 units. MG sales were also up 34% in April. Polestar also reported a 47.1% increase in sales, with 303 units sold last month.

Things are looking even worse in the UK. Sales of Tesla vehicles there collapsed to just 512 units in April, plunging 62% from the year prior.

Tesla is also down across several other European countries. For example, April sales slid 36% in Spain, 55% in Belgium, 59% in France, 67% in Denmark, 74% in the Netherlands, and by a huge 81% in Sweden.
