Australia spinner Nathan Lyon admitted that he was surprised to see Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja not playing the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth. He further mentioned that the two Indian spinners are likely to sit out of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval starting December 6.

Lyon, who is currently among the best spinners in the world, hailed the quality of the players in the Indian team. He highlighted that the absence of players like Ashwin and Jadeja shows the depth of the visiting team’s squad.

Ashwin has taken 536 Test wickets, but he doesn’t play regularly in SENA countries. Jadeja, who has dismissed 303 wickets, has also fallen behind in the pecking order after Washington Sundar’s bowling display against New Zealand.

“I am surprised but that’s the quality India have in their squad. Ravichandran Ashwin as over 530 wickets and Ravi (Jadeja) with more than 300 wickets are not getting a chance to play. I can’t control who they run out,” Nathan Lyon told media.

Nitish Kumar Reddy went after Lyon in the first Test, and the spinner is ready to temp the Indian all-rounder.

“I don’t mind if batters hit me for boundaries as it provides me an opportunity to take a few wickets in the game,” he added.
