Former India coach Rahul Dravid is the front-runner to replace legendary Kumar Sangakkara as the new head of Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2025. Dravid led India to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, which was his last assignment with the national team. There were reports of Kolkata Knight Riders also targeting him for the mentorship role after Gautam Gambhir’s departure.
But according to Cricbuzz, his former franchise, RR, wants him on board, and Dravid is also interested.
He was part of Rajasthan for years. Dravid led them in the league, and after his retirement, he also became the Royals’ coach. With Rahul only interested in short assignments, he is likely to opt for the role with RR.
Sangakkara is thinking of accepting the England and Wales Cricket Board’s offer to coach the white-ball team.
“I know my name is in the reports, but no one has contacted me. It is an exciting prospect, but there are so many good coaches out there. I am happy at the moment. My association with Rajasthan Royals has been satisfying, and I am enjoying my job,” Kumar Sangakkara said.
