New Zealand have announced the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They invited special guests Matilda and Angus to reveal the players’ names. It was the first time in cricket history that a team was announced in such a fashion.
Meanwhile, Kane Williamson, who is playing for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, will lead the side. This will be Kane’s sixth T20 World Cup squad appearance and his fourth as captain.
Tim Southee is ahead of Williamson with seven T20 World Cup appearances. Trent Boult, who doesn’t have a central contract, has found a place in the 15-member team.
Bowler Matt Henry and batting all-rounder Rachin Ravindra will play in their first T20 World Cup. Pacer Ben Sears will travel with the team as injury cover.
Adam Milner and Kyle Jamieson were unavailable due to fitness issues.
The head coach, Gary Stead, was confident of his team’s chances. “We have selected a good squad, and hopefully, the players will perform in the West Indies. It is good to have Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra, the first-timers,” he said.
