The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between Australia and South Africa was called off due to rain in Rawalpindi. Despite the efforts of the ground staff, the game couldn’t get underway.
Both teams got one point each, and their overall tally has reached three. Meanwhile, former India player Mohammad Kaif slammed Pakistan for mismanagement of ICC funds after seeing poor ground coverage during the contest between Australia and South Africa on February 26.
The toss couldn’t take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. The pitch was fully covered, but the outfield was exposed to the rain, which didn’t go well with Kaif, who took to X to slam the host nation.
“It’s a shame that the Rawalpindi ground isn’t fully covered. Such an important match – SA vs Aus – might go down the drain because no one addressed this issue. Was the ICC money utilised wisely by hosts?,” wrote Kaif on his X account.
It was the most awaited match of Group B as the two powerhouses in international cricket were up against each other.
The washout has put both Australia and South Africa in a tricky position, as a defeat in their last game could eliminate them from the first round. It has left Group B open but also robbed the fans of an entertaining match.
India and New Zealand have made it to the semis from Group A. Both teams defeated Pakistan and Bangladesh in their previous games and will compete against each other on March 2.
