India have got rid of six England batters in the fourth innings of the second Test match. While Ben Duckett was dismissed last evening, Rehan Ahmed, Ollie Pope, Joe Root Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow departed in the first session on Day four. India are defending 398 runs to level the series.
Crawley was the most prized scalp as he slammed 73 runs, laced with 8 fours and 1 six. He was trapped in front of the wicket by Kuldeep Yadav.
Earlier, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin started brilliantly for the Rohit Sharma-led team. Rehan (23) failed to read Axar’s delivery and was given LBW.
Pope (23), and Root (16) became Ashwin’s victims.
Jasprit Bumrah, who has a habit of taking important wickets, got one in the form of Jonny Bairstow, who scored 26.
With 205 still to get, India are in a driving seat at the moment. It was surprising that former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen launched a scathing attack on India captain Rohit Sharma.
“Look at Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Why is long-on back? Why is long-off back? Why is he so defensive straight away when England needs above 300? He should keep Rehan Ahmed on strike. He should have been out on the first ball of the day.
“Ben Stokes was brilliant yesterday. He didn’t allow the Indian batters to carry on. He went for wickets and managed to break partnerships,’ Kevin Pietersen said on JioCinema.
Soon after KP’s critical comment, Rehan was back in the dressing room.
