Rishabh Pant had all the time in the world to stump Mohit Sharma and win the game for Lucknow Super Giants against Delhi Capitals, but he failed. Shahbaz Ahmed bowled a peach of a delivery, and Mohit was out of the crease by a long way, but Pant couldn’t collect the ball in the last over of the match. Mohit took a single on the second delivery, and Ashutosh Sharma hit a six to take DC over the line with just 1-wicket in hand.
The new LSG captain was asked about his mistake that cost his franchise the game. “You need luck at times, but it is important to play well rather than think about luck. We batted and bowled well, but you need to do the basics right to win a game. We didn’t do the basics right. However, it is still the early days of the tournament, and we are still settling in as a team,” he said.
Lucknow posted 209/8, with Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh scoring fifties for the visitors. Kuldeep Yadav was outstanding with the ball, taking two wickets and conceding just 20 runs from his four overs. Delhi lost three wickets with 8 runs on the board. The game was in complete control of LSG before Ashutosh Sharma played one of the best innings in IPL history. He scored an unbeaten 66 runs off 31 balls, laced with 5 fours and 5 sixes.
