Ishan Kishan has agreed to play domestic cricket for his state team Jharkhand. He was not offered a central contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for refusing to play in Ranji Trophy despite being out of the Indian team.
The southpaw has been named among the 25 pre-season probables by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA). He has promised to represent his state in the upcoming season. Kishan is likely to get the captaincy as well.
The national selectors spoke to Ishan Kishan and convinced him to play domestic cricket. The decision-makers told the wicket-keeper batter that he might have to sit out of the Indian team if he doesn’t compete in domestic cricket.
Ishan hasn’t played international cricket for a long time. Shreyas Iyer, who was also kept out of the contract list, recently returned to the Indian team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Kishan had declined to play Ranji Trophy matches in the previous season. He was told to make himself available by the national team and the BCCI but the youngster refused to follow the directives. Ishan’s last appearance for India came in November 2023.
