The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could launch the Indian Premier League like tournament for the retired cricketers. According to Dainik Jagran, some of the former cricketers recently met the BCCI secretary Jay Shah and urged him to start a league for the ex-players. He agreed to give it a thought and will come up with a new concept by next year.
Several leagues are being played for the retired cricketers. The Road Safety World Series, Legends League Cricket, World Championship of Legends and the Global Legends League are some of the renowned tournaments. These leagues are for the legends of the game.
If the BCCI manages to launch it in 2025, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, David Warner, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers are likely to participate.
Tendulkar and Yuvraj have led franchises in different competitions after retiring from international cricket. Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Robin Uthappa and more have also given their services to T20 leagues.
If the BCCI can make it a reality, almost all the big names will join the tournament. It could prove to be dangerous for the other leagues centered around retired players.
This legends league will adopt a format similar to the Indian Premier League.
