India defeated South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to win their first global tournament in 13 years. The Men in Blue, who were led by Rohit Sharma, had thumped arch-rivals Pakistan in the group stage. Rohit recently opened up on his team’s game against the Men in Green.

Rohit also opined on the subject of the stadium in New York. “It was a beautiful and big stadium. We were not allowed to practice inside it as there were no facilities available. It was a makeshift venue, so we didn’t get things that are present in a normal stadium,” he told Star Sports.

Speaking on the challenging pitch, Rohit said, “We competed in three matches over there but couldn’t figure out about the good total and the areas to bowl. We decided to take the pitch out of the equation,” he added.

India wanted to chase against Pakistan, but Rohit lost the toss. His team was bowled out for 119 in 19 overs, with Rishabh Pant scoring 42 runs off 31 balls. “We just wanted Rishabh to play his natural game. His 42 were like 70.”

Rohit thought India were 15-20 runs short, but he backed his bowlers to do the job. “I had Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah with me,” he mentioned.

India beat Pakistan by six runs. “I know everyone wants us to beat Pakistan but for us it is just a game. If we win against Pakistan but fail to win the World Cup, it is not okay.”
