Former India player and chief selector MSK Prasad feels that Cheteshwar Pujara should have been given a chance for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. He mentioned that Pujara knows the Australian conditions well and has performed on the previous two tours of India.

“Hundred percent (Cheteshwar) Pujara should have been a part of the team considering his form in the Ranji Trophy. It is important to stick with players who have been regular contributors and Pujara is one of them,” Prasad told  RevSportz.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s last Test match was the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia at the Oval. He was dropped after the contest and replaced by Shubman Gill.

The former India cricketer also highlighted Cheteshwar Pujara’s double hundred in the Ranji Trophy. He further said that Pujara can put pressure on any rival team and has been a headache for the Australians.

“He scored a double hundred in the Ranji Trophy. He is a great cricketer. Despite being 35-36, he is still in the right stage of his cricketing career. When a player like him is in the middle, the opposition team is always under pressure. Australians feel happy when he gets dismissed,” he added.

“We should remember his contributions in the previous two series in Australia. We won the series because of him. Once he stays at the crease, the players sitting in the dressing room get confidence,” he concluded.

The current Indian team is under pressure after losing its first-ever Test series to New Zealand. The Kiwis won the Bengaluru game by 8 wickets and clinched a 113-run victory in the second Test.
