Several big Indian players will play in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. However, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were not considered for the prestigious tournament. While Bumrah’s break has been extended, there were reports of Virat and Rohit competing in Duleep Trophy.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, has now clarified that the priority is to keep Rohit and Kohli fit for the five-match Test series in Australia.
“Apart from Virat, Rohit and Bumrah, everyone else is playing. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are taking part in the Buchi Babu tournament,” Shah told The Times of India.
“We should not force Rohit and Virat to play in the Duleep Trophy to avoid injuries. In Australia and England, some of the international players are allowed to skip domestic matches. We have to treat Rohit and Virat with respect,” he further said.
Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer are the captains of Team A, Team B, Team C and Team D in Duleep Trophy.
Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and several others have been included in different teams.
