The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning significant changes to its national team structure, with Salman Ali Agha likely to take over from Shan Masood as Test captain and also serve as the all-format captain. Mohammad Rizwan is the current ODI captain and he is likely to be removed from the post.

Alongside the captaincy changes, the PCB will announce the formation of an “observatory” committee after the Eid holidays to monitor cricket developments and provide recommendations to the chairman.

A source confirmed that former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and ex-pacer Sikander Bakht were called to Lahore for discussions. “They were informed about the formation of the observatory committee and offered roles within it,” the source said.

“Additional players will also be included in this committee.”

A board source confirmed that former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and ex-pacer Sikander Bakht were summoned to Lahore for talks.

“The existing selection committee may undergo changes to continue collaborating with the Pakistan team management, or a new selection structure may be introduced, with a primary focus on scouting and identifying talent from domestic and age-group cricket,” the source added.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, after consulting with key aides, including new white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, is considering changes to the national selection committee. Naqvi aims to place the right people in the right roles, granting the coach and captain greater authority in team selections.

Salman Ali Agha, who currently captains the T20 team, is expected to take on additional duties, including the potential replacement of Shan Masood as Test captain once the new red-ball coach is named. Pakistan’s opening Test series in the ICC World Test Championship cycle will be against South Africa later this year, with just five Test matches scheduled for the calendar year.
