Rohit Sharma has passed his prime and is a walking wicket across formats. He has been struggling for runs for a long time. He entered the IPL 2025 without any form or runs under his belt. The right-handed batter has become a liability for the five-time champions, who use him as an impact sub. The veteran has got starts in a few matches but hasn’t crossed the 30-run mark.
In the latest match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored 26 runs off 16 balls, with the help of three sixes at the Wankhede Stadium. When the fans were celebrating his strokes, the 37-year-old ended up hitting a juicy full toss into the hands of a fielder. He could have hit it anywhere, but even handling ordinary deliveries has become an issue for Rohit. He headed back dejected, with supporters unable to believe what had happened to one of the best cricketers in white-ball cricket.
Mohammad Kaif, a long admirer of the opener, was left clueless and at a loss for words. Kaif couldn’t come to terms with the way Rohit got out.
“I don’t know what to say. He is now getting dismissed on a full toss. Brother, what is happening. He was beaten at the start of the innings but hit a six. Rohit was looking in control and the intent was there. He is not in form and has started getting dimissed on full toss,” Mohammad Kaif said on Star Sports.
He has registered scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, and 26 so far. Mumbai would have dropped him if he had been playing for a few years, but his stature and contribution to the franchise’s success have stopped the management from taking a tough stance against him. Mumbai retained him for INR 16.30 crore despite his struggles with the bat in the cash-rich league.
