Shreyas Iyer has been unstoppable since the three-match ODI series against England. He is consistently performing despite fighting on all fronts. The right-handed batter was dropped from the Test and T20I teams and was unsure of his place in the playing XI against the visiting English team.
He was not supposed to play in the series opener, but Virat Kohli’s injury gave him a chance, and the batter hasn’t looked back since.
The Men in Blue have always struggled to find a player who can bat at No.4, but Iyer’s display has also solved this concern. He cemented his place in the team, and his 79 runs in the third contest against New Zealand played a key role in the team’s win by 44 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Iyer added 98 runs with Axar Patel, who amassed 42 runs.
Former India player Aakash Chopra spoke about Shreyas Iyer’s fight against all the odds. “He lost his central contract and was then removed from the team. Iyer also went for surgery, and everything was against him. But credit goes to him for staying focused and returning to Team India. He is now scoring runs consistently,” Aakash Chopra said.
Ravi Shastri was delighted to see Iyer giving his best for the country. “It’s good to see that his hunger is back. He is playing good innings after innings since he has cemented his place at No.4,” he said.
