Former India cricketer and ex-Afghanistan head coach, Lalchand Rajput, praised Virat Kohli for his match-winning century against Pakistan, highlighting it as proof of his status as a “big match player.” Rajput stressed how Kohli’s calmness under pressure was key to India’s commanding six-wicket victory over their arch-rivals on February 23 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Kohli’s unbeaten 100 off 111 balls not only propelled India into the Champions Trophy semi-finals but also silenced critics who had questioned his form ahead of the tournament. Despite facing scrutiny after an inconsistent run in Test cricket, Rajput believes this century reaffirmed Kohli’s reputation as one of the best players in high-pressure situations. Speaking to PTI, Rajput expressed confidence in Kohli and the entire Indian team, predicting that they are well-placed to lift the Champions Trophy title based on their dominant performances so far.

“I believe Virat played an exceptional innings, showcasing his true class. We often refer to him as King Kohli, and once again, he proved why. He’s a big match player with that big match temperament,” Rajput stated.

“Virat’s century checked all the boxes. Now, it’s up to Rohit to score a big century as well,” he added.

India’s campaign has already seen two century-makers, with Shubman Gill setting the tone against Bangladesh and Kohli shining under pressure against Pakistan. Rajput also expressed faith in India captain Rohit Sharma, predicting that he, too, is primed for a big innings in the tournament.

“This Indian team is absolutely ruthless. Their goal is to dominate and win every match, never giving their opponents a chance to make a comeback. That’s their mindset. Given the way they’re playing, I believe they should win the Champions Trophy with ease,” Rajput concluded.

India has already secured a semi-final spot, and their final group-stage match against New Zealand on March 2 will determine their final standings in the group. With two commanding victories and a strong batting lineup, India has strengthened its position as one of the top contenders for the Champions Trophy title.
