Mohammad Amir has expressed concerns over Haris Rauf‘s recent injury, suggesting that the pacer could miss the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 if the injury turns out to be a side strain. Rauf sustained the injury during the opening match of the recent tri-series against New Zealand. After bowling 6.2 overs, he was forced to leave the field.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement following the match, confirming that Rauf had suffered a muscular sprain in his lower chest wall. As a result, he was ruled out of the rest of the tri-series, but the PCB initially anticipated that he would be fit for the Champions Trophy. However, Amir has raised concerns, questioning whether the injury might be more severe than originally thought.

Amir commented, “If Haris Rauf has a side strain, it will take at least six weeks for him to fully recover. However, if it’s just muscle stiffness, that’s a different situation.” He further explained, “For a grade one or two side strain, regardless of anything, six weeks of recovery is essential, and only then can rehab begin,” as reported by GeoSuper.tv.

Amir shared his own experience, saying, “I sustained a similar injury during the PSL a few years ago. If it’s a grade one or two side strain, I don’t believe he’ll be ready in time for the Champions Trophy. It would be unwise to jeopardize his career for just three games, especially since he wouldn’t be able to perform at his best.”

Amir reflected on a similar injury he faced during the Pakistan Super League a few years ago. He pointed out that if Rauf has a grade one or two side strain, it would be unlikely for him to play in the Champions Trophy. The former pacer also urged the PCB not to risk Rauf’s career, stressing that the bowler wouldn’t be able to perform at his best during the tournament.

Pakistan is set to begin their campaign on February 19 against New Zealand at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. It remains to be seen whether Rauf will recover in time for the match.
