Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood bowled just one over on day four after suffering from a right calf injury during warm-ups. Australia’s decision to recall the pacer for the third Test against India at the Gabba in Brisbane back-fired as the player is certain to miss the remaining matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Pat Cummins is a bowler short as Hazelwood left the field in the first session on Day 4 of the contest.

The 33-year-old hurt his right calf before the start of the proceedings on Tuesday morning. He lasted for six balls before heading to the dressing room. He went for scans and the report has confirmed that he has strained his right calf and is likely to miss the rest of the matches. He will not bowl in Team India’s second innings in Brisbane.

“A replacement will be announced,” said a CA spokesperson. Scott Boland, who took five wickets in Hazelwood’s absence from the pink-ball Test, is a firm favourite to play in the fourth red-ball game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Hazlewood appeared ginger and was down on pace. The series is levelled 1-1.
