Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten had highlighted the workload issues of Shaheen Afridi, saying that the pacer has bowled more overs in comparison to other bowlers, and it could impact the pacer. However, Shaheen disagrees with such observations.

According to him, workload is nothing and it depends on an individual how he handles his body.

Shaheen gave the example of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, saying the workload doesn’t bother them.

He feels that mental fitness is essential to achieve success while playing regular cricket. Afridi made his point clear ahead of the three-Test series against England.

Afridi has bowled 609 overs in 18 Tests since 2021 and has taken 76 wickets.

“If you are telling me that I have bowled the most overs in the world in Test cricket, you need to look at what Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis did during their times. There were no workload issues then,” he told Samaa TV.

“I don’t know why we are discussing the workload issues and injuries in the last year. It depends on the players. You need to be mentally fit and strong,” he added.

“It is a small period when you need support. I don’t know about the workload, and I feel that everyone should enjoy the sport.”

“If you are lazy, you cannot perform in any format. I know there are times when you are not able to give your best, and to counter it, you need to come up with new techniques similar to batters.
