Sunil Gavaskar had said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should have played in the Duleep Trophy 2024 before the two-Test series against Bangladesh. And now Sanjay Manjrekar has given a similar statement calling for the participation of Rohit, Virat, and Jasprit Bumrah in the red-ball domestic tournament.

It will start on September 5, with four teams competing for the title. The selectors have included most of the Team India staters in four squads, barring a few.

Manjrekar said that three senior players are well rested and could have played the Duleep Trophy. The Test series between India and Bangladesh will start on September 19 in Chennai.

“India has played 249 international games in the last years. Rohit’s participation rate is 59 percent, Virat’s 61 percent, and Bumrah’s 34 percent. I see them as well-rested Indian cricketers. They should have been a part of the Duleep Trophy,” he wrote on X.

Rohit and Kohli were last seen in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which India lost 0-2. Bumrah last played in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik to miss the Duleep Trophy

Ravindra Jadeja was withdrawn from the upcoming tournament. He was a part of Team B, which Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead. The BCCI didn’t reveal the reason for the withdrawal of the senior all-rounder.

Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have been ruled out due to illness. Navdeep Saini has replaced Siraj in Team B, while Gaurav Yadav has joined Team C in place of Umran.
