Umesh Yadav rocks Saurashtra after Team India snub for England Test series

Veteran pacer Umesh Yadav showcased his bowling prowess in the Ranji Trophy 2024 group match against Saurashtra, making a statement after being overlooked for the England Test series.

The 36-year-old, now playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024, delivered a stellar performance, grabbing four crucial wickets on the first day of the Ranji Trophy encounter.

Yadav’s impactful spell commenced with the dismissal of Vishvaraj Jadeja in the 25th over, caught by Harsh Dubey. He continued to dominate, removing the formidable Sheldon Jackson, caught by Dhruv Shorey. His onslaught intensified as he secured a double blow in consecutive deliveries, sending Arpit Vasavada back to the pavilion without scoring. In the very next over, he claimed Prerak Mankad as his victim on the first ball.

This flurry of wickets left Saurashtra struggling at 153 for 6. It illustrated Yadav’s ability to alter the course of an innings with his fast and accurate bowling. As the match progressed, Yadav’s four-wicket haul left Vidarbha in a commanding position.

With 360 wickets in 117 First-Class matches at an average below 30, Umesh Yadav has been a consistent performer. His proficiency is evident with 13 four-wicket hauls and an impressive tally of 15 five-wicket hauls in this format.

Beyond the First-Class arena, Yadav has been a stalwart for the Indian cricket team, contributing significantly.

In Test cricket, he has claimed 170 wickets in 57 matches. In ODIs, he has claimed 106 wickets from 75 appearances.
