Team India opener, Shubman Gill, has come under scrutiny after a series of lackluster performances in T20 cricket, resulting in his exclusion from the playing XI in the recent second T20I against Afghanistan. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has weighed in on Gill’s struggles, emphasizing the need for a change in approach.

Butt highlighted a recurring issue in Gill’s game, noting how the young batsman often throws his wicket after promising starts. In a recent YouTube video, Butt offered his insights and suggested that Gill should prioritize batting for longer durations.

“I believe Shubman Gill hasn’t done justice to his talent in recent matches. He’s a highly skilled player, and the haste he’s displaying doesn’t do justice to his capabilities,” he said.

Butt pointed out a specific pattern in Gill’s gameplay, where he scores in the twenties but then falls prey to a loose shot. According to Butt, this impatience is a departure from Gill’s successful approach during a previous productive year.

The former captain advised Gill to adopt a more patient strategy. “He simply has to keep batting without trying anything extraordinary. It’s crucial to understand that, even if you’re the best batter globally, you can’t control every ball. You must respond to the ball rather than trying to dictate it,” he added.

Gill’s struggles were evident in the first T20I against Afghanistan, where he was dismissed for 23 runs off 12 balls. His subpar performances extended into the T20I series against South Africa, where he managed scores of 0 and 8.
