The upcoming IPL 2024 auction is poised to witness a fierce bidding war. One player expected to be at the center of it is the 20-year-old Sameer Rizvi. Often referred to as the ‘right-handed Suresh Raina,’ Rizvi has caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts and former players alike.

Set to unfold on December 19, Tuesday, the IPL auction is drawing interest towards emerging talents from the Indian domestic circuit. Sameer Rizvi is certainly among the most promising prospects. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the young cricketer has been making waves in domestic cricket throughout 2023.

During a recent IPL mock auction on Jio Cinema, Abhinav Mukund shared insights from an IPL scout, describing Rizvi as the “right-handed Suresh Raina.”

“I got word from an IPL scout that he’s like a right-handed Suresh Raina. The way he handles spin is alike, and several teams could be chasing after him,” Abhinav Mukund said.

RP Singh believes that Sameer Rizvi could ideally fit into the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. Singh highlighted the team’s need for a reliable finisher. He pointed out that Rizvi’s explosive batting style could provide the necessary firepower in the lower order.

Cricket analyst Aakash Chopra echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Rizvi’s proficiency in hitting sixes at will.

“Lucknow Super Giants lack a solid Indian finisher. With top-order batsmen like Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran at No. 4 and No. 5, and Deepak Hooda not ideal for No. 6, the team could benefit from Sameer Rizvi’s big-hitting prowess. His impressive display in the UP T20 League makes him a promising choice for the role,” he said.

The 20-year-old batter showcased his prowess by scoring the fastest century in the inaugural edition of the UP T20 League. With an impressive average of 49.16 and a strike rate of 134.70 in domestic T20s, Rizvi has positioned himself as a sought-after talent.

“Sameer Rizvi brings a unique approach to his batting, and playing for a team from Uttar Pradesh would boost his confidence. Similar to Badoni in style, he stands out by playing with a straighter bat,” IPL legend Suresh Raina said.
