Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice on a batch of petitions filed by the students against the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the medical entrance exam NEET UG 2024.

Responding to Justice Neena Bansal Krishna’s vacation bench, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the NTA, submitted that the exam body is in the process of filing transfer petitions to consolidate all the matters regarding NEET exams filed in different courts across India before the Supreme Court.

Refusing to put any stay on the counselling process, the court issued a notice in the fresh petitions and listed them for hearing before the roster bench on July 05.

Advocate Suriti Chowdhary, representing the petitioners, said,” There were multiple matters filed before the Delhi High Court by us. We wanted to allege three basic issues – first one was the award of compensatory marks, second one was the discriminatory way in wrong questions were treated by the NTA and the third one was the leak of the papers. These three issues have been challenged from multiple petitioners.”

“The Solicitor General of India appeared on behalf of the NTA and said that because multiple High Courts are dealing with the same matter and NEET has become an issue of national importance, it is going to ensure that all matters are transferred before the Supreme Court,” Chowdhary added.

Notably, earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued notice on a plea seeking to cancel NEET UG 2024, alleging that there was a paper leak.

Taking note of the allegations of paper leak and other malpractices, a vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, “It is not that simple that because what you have done is sacrosanct. Sanctity has been affected, so we need answers.”

The top court, however, refused to continue the counselling of successful candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses.

In addition to the Centre and the NTA, the bench also issued notices to the Bihar government regarding allegations of malpractice in the state exam.

NEET-UG, 2024, was held on May 5 and results were declared on June 4. It was expected to be declared on June 14.
