The facelifted version of the fully electric sedan has a longer range, while offering greater comfort and technology equipment

Genesis Electrified G80 Gains 27-Inch Display, Longer Wheelbase, And A Larger Battery

  • The Genesis Electrified G80 receives a mid-lifecycle update in Korea
  • The electric sedan comes with a longer wheelbase, mild exterior tweaks, and enhanced technology inside
  • A larger battery pack with a capacity of 95,4 kWh offers a longer range between charges.

Genesis unveiled the updated Electrified G80 sedan in Korea, three years after its debut. The fully electric sedan adopts some of the upgrades introduced by the recently facelifted G80 while benefiting from a longer wheelbase and a larger battery pack for improved range.

The updated EV was previewed in China last April, but we now have more information, at least in Korean-spec form. Exterior changes are limited to the revised bumper intakes at the front, additional chrome accents on the lower portion of the bodywork, a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels, and the adoption of Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology by the split LED headlights.

More importantly, the facelifted Genesis G80 Electrified is longer than its predecessor, stretching its wheelbase by 130 mm (5.1 inches) to a generous 3,139 mm (123.6 inches). This change increases the available legroom for the rear passengers, bringing the comfort level closer to the G90.

Besides the extra space, the interior of the G80 Electrified adopts a 27-inch OLED display, combining the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment into a single unit. The rear passengers have access to reclining VIP seats, several controls on the central armrest, and massive screens mounted on the front seatbacks. Furthermore, they can now close the rear doors at a touch of a button, and enjoy extra privacy thanks to window curtains.

Setting aside the welcome updates on the exterior and interior, Genesis has also added a new battery pack with a capacity of 95,4 kWh, up from the 87.2 kWh of its predecessor. This extends the range figure from the current 427 km (265 miles) to 475 km (295 miles) under the Korean testing protocol.

Our colleagues from The Korean Blog report that the EPA and WLTP range figures will inch closer to the 600 km (373-mile) mark, although that has yet to be officially confirmed. The current model has an EPA range of 454 km (282 miles) and a WLTP range of 520 km (323 miles).

There is no mention of any changes on the powertrain, so we assume that the dual electric motors are carried over, producing the same 365 hp (272 kW / 370 PS) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

The market launch of the facelifted Genesis Electrified G80 in Korea will take place in August 2024, when we’ll learn more about its specs and pricing. We expect the updated model to reach other markets – including North America – likely for the 2025 or the 2026 model years.
